Write for us

We welcome clear, original pitches about the rules, tactics, formats, equipment and traditions that help readers understand sport. A good proposal begins with a specific question or detail and shows why it will interest someone who is curious, not necessarily an expert.

What fits

We are interested in evergreen explanations, comparisons, sporting histories, myth-checking and reader-friendly pieces about following a game or event. A pitch should have a distinct subject, a clear central idea and a sensible scope. We favour useful context over match recaps, unsupported claims or sweeping claims about what all players and supporters think.

What to include

Tell us the working title, the question your piece will answer, its main points and the category it best fits. Mention the sport and the relevant level, format or setting where those details affect the explanation. If the piece relies on sources or specialist access, say what you have in mind; do not imply access or testing that has not been secured.

Sending a proposal

Send your pitch through the Contact page and choose the editorial enquiry option. Please propose the idea before sending a finished article. We cannot promise a response time, acceptance or publication, and a pitch should be your own original work.
